During Winter Reading, and whether you participate in the reading program or not, you’re invited to add one of your favorite things to our display panel in the Reader’s Nook. We look forward to seeing your varied favorite things– they don’t have to be bookish or library-related but they certainly can be! Also, keep an eye out for the staff’s annual list of favorite books, movies, and music from 2024 which will be posted on here and our social media channels soon!
What are some of the staff’s favorite (library) things?
- The cushy armchairs near the magazines. This space seems hidden away from the other in the Library. A pair of earbuds, a great audiobook, and one of those chairs is like my dreams have come true. – Rita
- I love the youth section! It has so many resources for kids: books, kits, toys! It’s a cozy place for families to hang out, and the kids love it! – Laurie
- Homebound Delivery. I deliver for homebound and just seeing the joy it brings to people truly warms my heart. – Diane
- Libby. I love listening to audiobooks, and downloading ebooks to my e-reader! – Tatum
- Our Babel drum. It always makes me smile to read the plaque and remember Mary. Also, my kiddo has to play it both when we enter and when we leave. Our visit isn’t complete without it! – Kelly
- The Seed Library. It encourages interaction with nature and allows people to try growing and cooking with new varieties more easily. And gardening can become a family activity that’s screen-free! – Mona
- The Spanish collection. It gives me the opportunity to reconnect with a piece of my culture. – Miguel
- Hoopla, my favorite audiobook platform. I like that you can see how much time you have left in the chapter and book. And I love the instant borrows– it’s like grabbing a book right off the shelf! – Hannah
- The StoryWalk. It’s something that my daughter and I like to do together as a daddy/daughter day activity. We get ice cream and walk the path while reading the story together. – Chuck
- I love the True Crim Book Club (I am biased)! It’s a collaborative environment, an excuse to talk to like-minded people, and it build a creepy community that I value. – Natalie
- The children’s area. I love seeing the joy on the kid’s faces when they get to play in the Library or pick out new books! – Therese
- Read-along books (Vox and Wonderbooks). The way my son lights up when we read these books together is unlike anything else 🙂 – Stephanie
- The study desks by the teen section. It’s in a quieter part of the Library and the barriers make me feel more comfortable and focused. It’s also next to the teen horror books that I can browse through as a break. – Jean
- Homebound Delivery because it helps people that can’t come into the Library to look for items that they need/want. – Stacey
- Kids classes – yoga, arts and crafts, special story times. Such fun classes for kids of all ages, unique and the instructors really take a lot of time and effort into making them fun, well thought out and interesting for the kids! 10/10 recommend! – Heather
- Libby. I have access to ebooks or audiobooks at any time I want as long as I have my phone or tablet. I also love that I can read in bed without disturbing my husband by having a light on if I were to be reading a physical book. – Sara
- The trees in front of the Library in the spring/summer. They look pretty when they bloom and you can see them from the Service Center. – Jenene
- The device charging station at the back window in the Library. This is great for those times when I forget my charger. Plus this is a great resources that not a log of people know about. – John
- Pickleball Paddle Set (Library of Things). They’re so convenient for when I want to play with my friends or family, and since there are two kits for checkout, we can play with four people! – Jessica
- The staff. Because of everyone’s dedication to providing the best service to the community. Jill
