You must be a U.S. citizen, 17 years old on or before the date of the Primary Election and turn 18 on or before the date of the General Election, and you must live in your election precinct at least 30 days prior to Election Day.
- If you’re unsure about your status, check to see if you are already registered to vote in Illinois
- Register online through the Illinois State Board of Elections
- Register in-person at the McHenry County Clerk’s office
For in-person registration at the County, bring two forms of ID, one of which must include your current address. Acceptable forms of ID include:
- Driver’s license
- IL state ID
- Social Security card
- Employee or student ID
- Credit card or checkbook
- Library card
- Insurance card
- Public Aid ID
- Selective Service card
- Civic, fraternal, union, or professional association membership card
- Utility bill
